El extraordinario Stevia

Historia y tradición

Stevia’s traditional use in Paraguay dates back at least 1,500 years, when Indigenous communities valued its sweet leaves. Despite this long history, the plant remained unknown beyond South America until it was scientifically documented in 1899, paving the way for its wider recognition.

Nutrientes y compuestos

Stevia’s intense sweetness comes from steviol glycosides, primarily stevioside and rebaudioside A. These compounds can be up to 400 times sweeter than table sugar while providing zero calories. The leaves also contain flavonoids, polyphenols, and other naturally occurring plant compounds.

Versatilidad de las hierbas

Fresh, dried, or ground stevia leaves can be used to sweeten teas, coffee, lemonade, smoothies, desserts, and recipes. Their concentrated sweetness means only a small amount is needed, making stevia a popular natural, no-calorie alternative to refined sugar.
